Rey Caro Recurrent Respiratory Papillomatosis. Journal of Voice. It is our belief about HPV and Papillomatosis. By Dr. It consisted in a process of trial and error based on the idea that it was a recurrent disease, assumed that this disease in most cases returns. Where does an idea of an uncurable dissease came from? At that time, we started to question our believes that this is an uncurable disease.
The disease own name carries in it self the mark of been uncurable. At the beginning of our research, we started from the concept that HPV infection is a recurrent disease. This approach comes from the surgical failures which led to the wrong concept of it always being recurrent. This idea discourages treating surgeons, patients and, other people involved. There is a vital role in this disease which has not been considered carefully enough: the HPV virus neoangiogenesis potentiality which would be even greater than that one in cancer disease.
The role of HPV-virus-neoangiogenesis potentiality would have not been comprehensively considered enough. At onset of our RRP surgical approaches the main concern was both how to manage HPV high reproduction rates and how to decrease them by means of cold-instruments. We realized that by using cold-instruments the diminishing of those reproduction rates it would almost be impossible. It was not an easy process. It was valuable for us to count with a digital medical image software that clearly emphasizes the anatomical areas that were properly treated and those ones that were overlooked or inadequately managed.
On top of this, the development of Indigo Carmine-Chromoendoscopy gave us light on the way to eradicate all visible lesions. Papilomatosis Respiratoria Recurrente.
